Tail painting provides a visual indication of when cows are coming onto, or are on, heat. When mounted by other cows the paint is rubbed, allowing you to easily track your herd's reproductive activity.
Tail paint cows with RED approximately 3 weeks after calving. Then observe the painted area for signs of the paint being rubbed. When it has been rubbed, the cow has started her cycle. In cases where it is not rubbed (possible non- cycling cows) seek advice from your veterinarian.
Tail paint cows with GREEN immediately prior to commencing your artificial insemination programme.This identifies cows coming into heat on a daily basis.
Tail paint cows with BLUE after inseminating the cows. This will tell you if she has held to the service. If the paint has been rubbed off, the cow is not pregnant.
Tail paint cows returning for a second round of insemination with PINK.
Tail paint with YELLOW once a cow has been confirmed pregnant after 12 weeks.
Tail paint with ORANGE to identify any late calving cows.

Tail painting is quick and easy with this uniquely curved paint roller. For deep pits or sheds where you need a bit more reach add a lightweight aluminum extension handle that screws into the bottom of the roller. Extension handle is extendable from 30-60cm and has three lockable positions. Use with FIL Detail Paint and rinse in a bucket of water after use. Replacement roller heads sold as a 2-pack.

Mark cows clearly that are sick and require treatment with RED. Remember to explain your marking system to your staff and relief milkers.
Directions
Mark which quarter is affected. The + is used to clearly identify the quarters, with the top being front.
Mark treatments (T1, T2, T3) with a line after each treatment.
Mark with a line on each day milk is withheld after last treatment (D1, D2, D3, D4).
Cancel paint markings with GREEN to mark that the cow is clear to milk into the vat and can re-join the herd.
